We are certainly in a unique time. There has never been a season quite like this one in my lifetime, and yet; I know this won’t last forever. One of the hardest parts about this pandemic is not knowing when exactly things will return to “normal.” Many business owners are making pivots in their business and re-evaluating business expenses. Covid-19 left no person untouched. Because so many people are at home, social media engagement is up and it’s a great time to start advertising or to continue advertising. However, if you have to completely pull your marketing budget to get through this season Tip 3 is for you.
Tip 1: Keep Going
If you are in a place where you can continue marketing on Facebook & Instagram and you are seeing a return on your investment then keep your ads going. These ads are not costing your business anything. They are actually driving more traffic and sales to your company. Don’t panic and stop your ads just because the world is in a unique position.
Tip 2: Market to Warm Audiences
If you are needing to cut business costs, then I recommend continuing to run ads to your current customers or people who are connected to your email list, Facebook page, or are past buyers. I refer to these audiences as “warm” audiences because they already know who you and what product or service you provide. They are going to be the cheapest audience to advertise to because they take much less convincing before making a purchase, as opposed to an audience who has never heard of you or your company. Keep advertising to this audience and it will help remind people that your business is still open and ready to serve.
Tip 3: Use Hashtags
If you aren’t able to dedicate any funding to your marketing budget, then I would suggest that you continue to post consistently on your social media sites and use hashtags. Hashtags are a way people find and see your post based on certain words or phrases. You can use up to 30 hashtags per Instagram post and I recommend using all 30. This only increases the chances of someone coming across your post and following your page on Instagram.
Before you use hashtags, do some hashtag research. Find out what hashtags are trending in your industry and get a mix of hashtag audience sizes. For example, include some hashtags that have a following of only a couple thousand and some hashtags that have 100,000 followers. To discover how many followers a hashtag has, simply type the word or phrase in the search bar on Instagram and click “Tags.” Under each of the hashtags, you will see how many people are using that hashtag.
The more you can stay in front of your audience during this season and serve them or remind them that you still have something to offer, the quicker you will bounce back after this is over. Do what you can with what you’ve got to serve your community and stay top of mind.
