How Does an Election Year Impact My Ad Campaigns?
There was much controversy around the 2016 presidential election in the United States. Many people criticized Facebook for a lazy approach to reviewing and approving political ads and not requiring a disclaimer of who paid for the ads.
For the vast majority of people, the election year means a closer review of ads before approval. Your ad may be rejected if it appears to promote a certain politician, social issue, or even encourage civic action such as voting. If your ads get rejected do not panic it is normal and may happen more frequently over the next few months.
Therefore, I would encourage you to give yourself a buffer of time between creating the ads and when you want them to start running. If your ad gets rejected give yourself a couple of days to make adjustments and submit your ad for approval again.
Companies wanting to advertise for politics, social issues, or civic action on Facebook must go through an authorization process. Once approved you will have to include a disclaimer on all your political ads letting people know who paid for the ad.
As we get closer to the election date, it may feel like social media gets more polarized than normal. My encouragement to you is double down on the positive work you are doing. Keep creating content that serves people and promotes the brand you have. We need your joy, light, and personality present during the next few months!
If you feel overwhelmed by Facebook and Instagram ads, then consider hiring an expert to take care of creating wildly successful ad campaigns for your brand.
